NINE! IX! Yeah, it's going pretty well. My chocobo can fly now. Took basically forever, because the only way to get your golden chocobo is through a dumb-luck mini-game that is more than a tad frustrating. But hey, doesn't matter now, cause MY CHOCOBO CAN FLY! Getting to the stage where you have free roam of the map is something I've only really achieved in the original Final Fantasy, so I was super excited to be able to go everywhere.
Unfortunately, it turns out once you've got that far in the game, there's really shit all to do around the map. Yeah you can go to a flooded library, but there's not a huge amount to do there. It's fun to go back and explore old locales but it doesn't really add much to the game. I guess it's just that freedom of choice to be able to go anywhere you want. I just wished there was something to do when I got there.
Lindblum: Not as impressive in-game |
Now I'm a bit more of a grown up (hah) I'm faring much better in my V adventure. I'm always impressed by how much story could be told with the tiny sprites and simple animations. The plot swings along at a far pace, which is probably why it's not super involving. Often, you just end up drifting from town to town, failing to protect the crystal, getting new jobs. God, I love the Job System. It's such a great way of allowing you to pick your perfect team. Want to have two mages and two physical attackers? You can! Want to have a team of summoners? You can, but I wouldn't advise it. Want to have a team of Monks? You can, and probably should because Monks will PUNCH EVERYTHING TO DEATH. Basically, the Job System in FFV: Very good.
Probably because I get some weird thrill of dressing up my party in different outfits. |
And I am done on Final bloody Fantasy for a while now. Next time, Thief (THE GAME) or maybe something entirely different. See ya then.
Golden Chocobo FTW =P Who needs an airship!? I got a FLYING CHOCOBO!
ReplyDeleteOh, I loved V, too! First time I played it was through... er.... "alternate means" on the PC years ago since the likelihood of it ever seeing life outside Japan back then was laughable. Glad I was wrong.
Started playing it again a while ago as part of the Anthology as well. Seriously need to go back and play through it again (have no idea where I am!)
I have no doubt that Square would've hired you. =P Thou art a smart cookie. Job mixing idea = brilliant. Copyright that! xD
To be honest, FFX was my favorite of them all...
ReplyDelete...and I've never even touched IX.
Monks hit like a boss though. Favorite class in every game they were in ;D
I still hold some respect for FFX, but IX is such a brilliant game. You just have to try it =)
DeleteApparently, a fully powered team of Monks can beat the final boss in the original FF in two turns =D
They can! It's hilariously anticlimactic.
