But I always imagined that the best part of these massive RPGs is the act just exploring your surroundings instead of rushing to the next town to get a quest done.

The things you wished were implemented sound awesome, but perhaps that might've made the game a lil' too hardcore and (perhaps) not as appealing to the more casual crowd (again, since I haven't played the game, so I'm probably off-base here).Mineevahttp://www.vastseaofgames.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8426452866095617258.post-12695722695448921212012-04-02T02:30:19.307+01:002012-04-02T02:30:19.307+01:00Given the generally mediocre scores Dante's In...Given the generally mediocre scores Dante's Inferno received, I went into my first playthrough with relatively low expectations.

I agree that it would have been a better game if they freed themselves from the original work a little more, but it was good nonetheless. The designs were incredible and the combat was good too.

Only problem I had (like most others) was that the game grew stale a little over halfway through. It still looked great, but the game stopped introducing new puzzles and combat mechanics. It's unfortunate too - if it had kept up awe factor that kept me so enthralled through the first half, it would easily have been one of my favorite games of all time.

I will pay money to see Paradise Lost in game form, by the way.Austinhttp://www.chimericconcepts.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8426452866095617258.post-55166329548267022082012-03-26T01:50:49.461+01:002012-03-26T01:50:49.461+01:00Hmmm... I would love to see them hand Final Fantasy over to them and say, "Give it some Quebecois charm!" They could also bounce ideas off SE Japan but still be 100% responsible for the project. I recall reading an interview on GamaSutra with one of the directors who's gonna be working at the SE Montreal saying that that's not out of the realm of possibilities.

I'd be more than happy to run around saying that a Final Fantasy game's being developed in my backyard!

It is cool to see such different ways to tell a story and glad we have that choice :DMineevahttp://www.vastseaofgames.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8426452866095617258.post-73848984386832568592012-01-07T22:34:23.430+00:002012-01-07T22:34:23.430+00:00Absolutely could the two genres learn from each ot...Absolutely could the two genres learn from each other. There's some fantastic ideas in both genres, but I'd love to see some exchange of ideas.

In fact, I would love to see a Final Fantasy game as developed by a Western dev. Would never happen, because Square aren't exactly big on sharing, but I would love to see what came out of it. In the same way, I'd love to see an Elder Scrolls spin off developed by a Japanese dev.

The games are different because they are targeting different audiences, or more accurately, different cultures, and it's incredible to see how different the games they produce are.

The world is an incredibly varied place =)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07055550565309468650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8426452866095617258.post-40230282484390980282012-01-07T17:42:58.085+00:002012-01-07T17:42:58.085+00:00Great post!

At the same time, I think of how overwhelming it could be, no? Like, there's too much choice and you just don't know what to do? Again, I haven't played many WRPGs, so I'm probably way off base on this.

With JRPGs, it's just like you said: whatever choices you make don't have a direct impact on the story whatsoever. That's one of my biggest pet peeves (aside from Angsty McBadass-Anti-Hero).

Again, due to lack of exposure to WPRGs I might be overspeaking a bit, but do you think the genres could learn more from each other? I know JRPGs could do with a bit of a shakeup to the formula, but do you think that WRPGs could benefit from taking a point or two from JRPGs?Mineevahttp://www.vastseaofgames.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8426452866095617258.post-51458619386426441012011-12-27T15:55:49.279+00:002011-12-27T15:55:49.279+00:00Hooray for being at home! I'm so happy that the series is getting the HD treatment. Gonna pick that up for sure!

As for Chrono Trigger... I remember getting that for Christmas for my SNES back in the day (and I STILL have no idea how my mom managed to find it, as it was selling out everywhere!). I think I played that game half a billion times. Then I lent it to a friend and never saw it again. I now have it for my DS and I hug it every night... okay, maybe not EVERY night...
